Know The Founder
Trishna Baruah, the founder of the NGO Paribartan, is a fearless lady with firm resolve and a caring heart. Hardship faced by her, during life’s journey since childhood, instilled in her an indefatigable strength and a never-say-die confidence. Struggle taught her the the importance of finer human values for a healthier and happier society.
Trishna was born on January 5, 1969 at Shillong, Meghalaya, India. She spent her childhood at Mangaldoi in Darrang district of Assam with her mother, four sisters and a brother. Her schooling was in her native place, and she graduated from the Mangaldai College, Darrang. She started her carrier as a teacher in Don Bosco School, Lengeripara, Magaldoi. She taught specially-abled students there.
Teaching and interactions with such students brought immense happiness to her. That was the starting point of her journey to do something for the society. She decided to endeavour for betterment of children in future.
After a brief span of six months at Don Bosco school, she joined the Department of Telecommunication(now, BSNL) in 1993 in the office at Barpeta Road, Barpeta district, Assam. Later in 1998, she got transferred to the Nalbari district in Assam. She took initiatives to employ 400 unemployed youths of Barpeta and Nabari through the PCO service centres offered by DoT. She took special drives to keep the area around her place of work in Nalbari and Barpeta clean and green by removing garbage and planting hundreds of trees with the help of the unemployed local youths. Trishna also fought against the social evil of witch hunting arising out of ignorance and superstitions in remote areas like Baksa district. She helped rescue and rehabilitate witch hunt victims there.
Trishna got married on October 11, 2000 with Late Saradindu Sarma, son of a well-known person in Nalbari Her transferable job in BSNL brought her to Guwahati in July 2003. Her married life turned out to be very turbulent contrary to her expectations. She started living in Guwahati since July, 2003. Her new official assignment was at the Customer Care Node of BSNL’s GSM mobile service, Panbazar, Guwahati. She performed her duties in providing mobile connections to the customers and attending their grievances very diligently. She made a mark as an honest and devoted worker of BSNL. She came across spectrum of distinguished persons from different walks of life while discharging her official duties. Her magnetic persona helped her establish a good network of people. In one such interaction with BSNL customers, she came across Shri Amit Sharma and his wife Smt. Neelam Sharma of Guwahati, who became the first life time member of Paribartan after they came to know about her project of an old age home.
While pursuing her dream of doing something for the betterment of children, she also observed that aged senior citizens deserve the missing care and importance when they need these most during the later part of their lives. A change occurred. She decided to establish and run a NGO for primarily taking care of the old people. This way, initial form of Paribartan took shape in 2014.
Initial concept of making Paribartan as an old age home alone was reshaped later on. Paribartan now works as –
- a care and recreation home for the elders
- a skill development centre to empower the rural women
- to nurture the talent of the children in art and craft
- to preserve and enhance the natural eco-system around, and
- to develop a self-sustainable hub for organic farming
Paribartan - an Ashram
Paribartan will be an ashram in real sense where the aged senior citizens will feel happy. Their longings for being loved and cared will find its expression here - that too in the midst of pristine natural serenity. The children of the surrounding area will get a platform to excel in art and craft, and the rural women folk will learn to hon their skills for better living. Happiness will spread!
